The Eastern Way Fundamental #4: Just Do It
Fundamental #4: Just do it. Take personal responsibility for making things happen. Respond to every situation by looking for how you can do it, rather than explaining why it can't be done. See issues through to their completion.
I have been in the vehicle business for over 30 years. In that time, I've bought and sold cars out of my home and worked for new and used car dealers, as well as leasing companies and commercial banks. The bottom line in this industry is that no one - whether it's your boss, your customer or your vendor - wants to hear that you cannot do something to accommodate them. What should you do? The answer is, find a way to get it done – just do it.
When I joined Eastern Funding's specialty vehicle division in September of 2013, I walked into a large outstanding title report. Even with very little computer access in the beginning, I knew there was a job to be done. I sat down and got to work. Our collateral is our business and having it safe guarded in-house is crucial. Little by little, diligently the titles began to come in. With the knowledge I came with, I was able to pull resources that I acquired over the years to get the job done.
Shortly after starting at Specialty Vehicle, I lost my husband Henry. After only a week, I had to get myself together and back to cleaning up the title report. With more progress being made and the title report looking great, in February, I was hit with health problems and wound up in the hospital for 3 weeks and in recovery at home for another 3 weeks. When I finally returned, it was tough, but I got right back into the swing of things.
When there is a demand, and a task that needs to be completed - there's no room for a pity party. You have to put your "big girl pants" on and get the job done. This attitude carries through all aspects of my life, both work and personal. Get it done- just do it!
