Out of Order signs are one of the worst things that a Laundromat owner can tape to a washer or dryer, especially if the Out of Order sign is visible for long periods of time. Customers will notice these issues that you might think are small, but to them it says, “Maintenance of machines is not a priority in this Laundromat”. At this point the customer then begins to wonder if the machines in your Laundromat, even if not broken, are maintained well enough to clean your garments up to your expectations. The second this happens, you have lost a customer. It is often harder to achieve new customers than it is too lose old customers. Advice of the Day: Maintain your machines. Always Be Working!

If as the Laundromat owner you begin to notice several machines have had issues and stopped working, you might be at that point where it is time to re-tool your Laundromat. Most manufacturers are offering great financing incentives to allow operators to pick up new machinery at very reasonable prices. The newer machinery is likely to be more efficient, and subsequently will save you money on the utilities side of things. Those savings help to subsidize the new purchase of machinery.

Always keep in mind that if you do not retool when you need to, you are opening your Laundromat up to being taken over by a new competitor, that has newer equipment, and better service. Don’t give your customers a reason to try the new Laundromat opening up around the corner. Maintaining your machines for peak performance, or re-tooling your Laundromat, will give you that competitive edge you need to stay ahead of the competition.
