Dryer Tips!

Dryers come in 2 flavors. Single Pocket dryers and Stacked dryers. Dryers are usually paired with a washer. For example, a 50lb washer would fit well with a 30lb stacked dryer or a 55-75lb dryer. The capacity for a dryer ideally would be a little bit bigger than the capacity of the washer because the additional cylinder space in the dryer will increase the overall efficiency of the dry time.

Most of the dryer manufacturers make dryers with a manual timer, as well as dryers with a microprocessor control. By having a microprocessor control on your dryer you will be able to use additional features which are normally not found on manual controls. Manual control dryers are basic dryers, and therefore limited to how you can control them. For example, you set the dryer for a specific length of time, such as 50 minutes, and if the clothes are dry in 30 minutes you will have wasted 20 minutes of time and energy. A dryer with a microprocessor control allows you to set a specific time, but will also have multiple "program" sets where, for example, you can set sheets to dry for 24 minutes and set spreads to dry for 35 minutes. The microprocessor allows you to customize your dry times depending on what you are drying. These microprocessor controls can be found on dryers in both Coin Operated Laundries as well as On Premise Laundries.

The advantage of Stacked Dryers over Single Pocket Dryers is space. One of the biggest issues a Laundromat has is space. Meaning, there is never enough of it. Stacked Dryers allows for maximization of the available space while maintaining the number of machines needed for a profitable store. However, one piece of advice is to make sure your Laundromat layout is comfortable for the customer. Sacrificing customer comfort for quantity of machines might lead you down a road that diminishes your customer base. A happy customer is a returning customer.
