Coronavirus Recommendations for Laundry Attendants

Good hygiene and cleanliness are critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19. This means that having access to clean and safe laundry facilities is a critical component to keeping our communities safe. Here are some best practices to keep yourself, your customers and your laundry safe during this time.

Personal Care:

  • Always wear gloves when working with customers or cleaning the store.
  • Thoroughly wash your hands throughout the day with soap and water.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow and avoid touching your face.
  • If you are feeling sick do not come to work. Stay home or follow the current government guidelines for getting medical care.

Store Care:

  • Frequently wipe down machines with disinfectant. Be sure to include all handles, buttons and coin drops. This includes washers, dryers, changers, vending, etc.
  • Frequently clean and disinfect door handles both inside and outside of the store.
  • Frequently wipe down hard surfaces such as folding tables, seats, and waiting tables.
  • Frequently wipe down the bars and edges of the laundry carts.
  • Wipe down the restrooms and make sure that they are fully stocked with soap.
  • Clean the floors in the store frequently throughout the day.
  • Regularly take the garbage out of the store, including restrooms.

Customer Care:

  • Greet customers verbally and avoid personal contact, like shaking hands.
  • Be sure that hand sanitizer is out and available to customers. Encourage them to use it.
  • When possible, encourage customers to avoid gathering. This includes keeping safe distances, leaving the store while waiting, or possibly waiting in their car.
  • Encourage customers to not shake laundry and to disinfect laundry bags and baskets.
  • Encourage customers to use the right amount of soap. Over-sudsing can prevent clothes from being rinsed properly and can cause dirt, and the virus, to be trapped in fabrics.

Thank you for all you’re doing to keep your community and customers safe. These are meant as a guide and is not an all inclusive list. Please adhere to up-to-date recommendations, requirements and regulations issued by the government.
